Travelling around Hungary it is worth stopping in the town of Paks and devoting some time to discover the past rich in history, the genuine landscape always showing a new face. And, the friendly and hospitable people are also worth meeting. The visitors can go to see the Visitors’ Centre of the Paks Nuclear Plant where they can have a look at the mysteries of the electric power production. Then they can go to see the Holy Spirit Church designed by Imre Makovecz, the Picture Gallery of Paks, the Paks Museum, the excavated ruins of the Lussonium fortress or the unique wine-press houses on Sárgödör Square. Besides all this, we are proud of our rich cultural and sport life. All the year round there are interesting events and programmes to colour the everyday life. Among many others, the annual Gastroblues Festival, the National Siller Festival and the Ecumenical Blessing of New Wine are held in our town. On the spring and summer events on the Danube bank the picturesque promenade is as vivid as it was fifty or hundred years ago. The sport life of Paks is also significant; its name is mentioned in the leading group of numerous kinds of sport like judo, canoeing, basketball, chess and football. It has well-known and famous sportspeople and teams such as Antal Kovács Olympic champion judoist, Ákos Braun Europe- and world champion judoist, György Kozmann canoeist, the Atomerõmû SE men’s basketball team and the National First League football team of Paks. Fiery red and delicious fish soup, full-bodied wine, exciting sports events, ancient folk traditions, rich cultural programmes, architectural harmony of old narrow small streets and
new buildings, the nuclear plant as a triumph of the modern technology blending into the townscape, and of course, the permanent background of all this, the River Danube. And, in addition to it, the marvellous fusion of the old and the new. You can find all this in our town, Paks. You are invited to come and discover it.
